Ah so striking! Beautiful color and the center layered face grabs me. The dancing figures really seem blurred with motion and the maddonas make me think theres meaning I cant grasp in it.

Hello
Would you mind if I emulated the use of color and your compositional structure as you have here in this piece for school? I am an undergraduate illustration major; this is for my drawing 3 class.
I would create an image rather different from yours in content and meaning, but I would utilize the compositional structure and color pallet you have used here. I would need to make color prints for reference.
If you would be willing to allow me to use your piece as an inspiration, I would of course give credit to you in any publication.
Please consider and get back to me as soon as Tuesday, October 7, 2008. I do apologize for giving you such short notice and hope that you have time to contemplate and respond to my request.
Thank you in advance for your time,
-Emma

Okay, this will probably get deleted along with the other pointless messages in your inbox, but does the title relate at all to "Madona of the Rocks"? I (like many other mindless drones) started reading the Da Vinci Code, and heard about the Da Vinci painting, and the titles seem SOMEHOW similar.

Hmmm interesting question. The interesting things is: artists didn't title their work until the 1800's. So a bunch of art historians have titled works...and given them titles that relate to the environment...so Madonna of the Rocks just means there are rocks in the picture. My favorite is Madonna of the long neck: you guessed it: she has a long neck. What I believe you are picking up on is the style of titling. This painting has elements stolen from Piero Dell Francisca (spelling). I painted it to see how many ways of painting I could combine and still have the image hang together.

Wow, I didn't know that about the titles. Honestly, I'm not much of an artist myself, so the only thing that I really noticed was the title. I do, on occasion, make a sketch in my book, but not very often. Well, thanks for replying!
